• The Inpatient Geriatric Consult Service helps manage both medical issues related to the older patient's care as well as geriatric issues such as:

  • Elder abuse
  • Pre-operative evaluations and post-operative medical management
• The Palliative Medicine Inpatient Consult Service strives to prevent and relieve suffering and support the best possible quality of life for patients facing life-threatening or debilitating illnesses. This consult service evaluates and treats patients requiring palliative care, pain management and/or hospice services. Common symptom complexes addressed by the Palliative Care Service include:
• Pain
• Shortness of breath
• Constipation
• Chronic Nausea

• Anxiety
• Fatigue
• Emotional and spiritual distress
• The Palliative Medicine Clinics evaluate and treat physical and psychosocial symptoms for those with life-limiting illness. This clinic serves as an entry point into the Palliative Medicine Program, as well as outpatient follow up for patients seen in the hospital or as part of the Bridge House Call Program. Referrals to this clinic are made from within the Harris Health System.
