The Council for the Advancement of Nursing Science also hosted six outstanding early-career nurse scientists who participated in the inauguralDuck-Hee Kang Memorial Mentored Workshopduring the conference. The workshop for competitively chosen postdoctoral and new faculty researchers honors the late Duck-Hee Kang, Ph.D., R.N., FAAN, who had been the Lee and Joseph D. Jamail Distinguished Professor at Cizik School of Nursing.

Kang, who died unexpectedly in 2016, was highly regarded as a biobehavioral nurse scientist and an outstanding research mentor of junior faculty.

“Dr. Kang was the quintessential mentor to students and early career faculty,” said Marti Rice, Ph.D., R.N., FAAN, professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing and immediate past chair of the Council. “This workshop honors her memory and provides an exceptional opportunity for mentoring in proposal development and review for the selected participants. She would have been so pleased.”
